What’s Business

The proposed ‘What’s Business’ course aims to introduce teenagers to the field of business, covering key concepts and functions. It consists of eight online modules, including topics such as marketing, finance, human resources, management, business analytics, international business, entrepreneurship, and business law. The course will assess students regularly and provide opportunities for active participation. By the end, students will have a general understanding of business majors and their focus areas.

Chapter 1: What is Business and why is it needed / so widespread?

In chapter 1, you will learn about the fundamental concept of business and why it is essential and prevalent in today’s society. The module will introduce you to the definition of business and its various components. You will explore the reasons why business is needed, such as fulfilling customer needs and wants, creating employment opportunities, generating economic growth, and facilitating the exchange of goods and services. Additionally, you will examine the factors that contribute to the widespread nature of business, such as globalization, technological advancements, and the pursuit of profits.

Chapter 2: Marketing

In this chapter, students delve into the fundamental principles of marketing, learning how businesses identify target markets, develop effective strategies, and promote their products or services.

Chapter 3: Finance & Accounting

This module will introduce you to the principles of finance and accounting. You will learn about financial statements, budgeting, financial analysis, and the role of accounting in decision-making. You will gain valuable insights into managing financial resources and understanding the financial health of a business.

Chapter 4: Human Resources

This chapter focuses on human resources (HR) management, which deals with the management of an organization’s most valuable asset: its people. You will learn about various HR functions, including recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, and employee relations. This module will provide you with the skills necessary to effectively manage human resources, foster a positive work environment, and align HR strategies with organizational goals.

Chapter 5: Management (touch upon Hospitality, Sports & Healthcare management)

Chapter 5 covers the broad field of management, with a particular emphasis on hospitality, sports, and healthcare management. You will explore the principles of management, including planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. This module will delve into the unique challenges and considerations within the hospitality, sports, and healthcare industries, such as customer service, event management, and healthcare regulations. By the end of this module, you will have a comprehensive understanding of management principles and their application in specific sectors.

Chapter 6: Business Analytics

This Chapter introduces you to the world of business analytics, which involves using data and statistical techniques to inform decision-making and gain insights into business operations. You will learn about data collection, data analysis, and data visualization techniques. This module will also cover topics such as predictive analytics, data-driven decision-making, and the role of business intelligence tools. By the end of this module, you will be equipped with the skills to harness the power of data and leverage it to drive business success.

Chapter 7: International Business and Entrepreneurship

Chapter 7 focuses on international business and entrepreneurship, exploring the opportunities and challenges of conducting business in a globalized economy. You will learn about international trade, global market entry strategies, cultural considerations, and the impact of globalization on business practices. This module will also touch upon entrepreneurship, including the process of starting a new business venture, identifying and evaluating opportunities, and managing entrepreneurial risks. By the end of this module, you will have a comprehensive understanding of the global business landscape and the skills needed to navigate it successfully.

Chapter 8: Business Law

Chapter 8 introduces you to the legal aspects of business operations. You will learn about the legal framework that governs business activities, including contract law, employment law, intellectual property law, and business ethics. This module will equip you with the knowledge to understand legal rights and obligations in business transactions, mitigate legal risks, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Understanding business law is crucial for making informed and ethical business decisions.
