In April, the SSSP Children’s English Class (Phonics) was launched, thanks to the incredible support of Teacher Ashlen Weng! 🙌 Initially, when we promoted the program, there wasn’t much interest… But with determination, our team members rallied their own children—daughters, nieces, and nephews—to form a class. 👧👦 It was our first attempt at offering an online children’s English class focused on teaching pronunciation and phonics. We weren’t sure how it would turn out, but we decided to move forward—and the results exceeded all our expectations! 🤩
From just two groups, A and B, we’ve now expanded to four groups: A, B, C, and D. This expansion would not have been possible without the dedication of our amazing volunteers. 🌍💪 We began with a teacher from Taiwan 🇹🇼, and over time, the original teaching assistant—a member of our organization—took over as a teacher. 👩🏫 As the number of students grew, we introduced a teacher training program. 🎓 Four adult students, who have been actively engaged in our English classes, completed this training and are now an integral part of our teaching team. 🧑🎓 These four individuals embody our values of #Empowerment, #PositiveCycle, and #GivingBack. 💫
The children’s enthusiasm and proactive attitudes also sparked greater passion among our volunteer teachers. 🌟 Teacher Ashlen frequently discussed with us ways to further support the children and enrich the cultural and language exchange between the students. In June, we hosted two online exchange sessions. 💻 The first, titled Friendship Through Poetry🎤, was a public event. The second involved students from Ashlen’s class in Changhua, Taiwan 🇹🇼, who introduced their schools in English. Both events were a great success, fostering deeper connections and understanding. 🤝🌏
As more people inquired about enrolling their children, we split the class into two before summer, and the original teaching assistant took on the role of the beginner class teacher. 👩🏫 As the demand grew, we launched a teacher training program, led by Teacher Ashlen, for four adult students. These trainees have demonstrated exceptional dedication and have become important contributors to the success of the program. We now have 4 groups teaching children phonics. One is run by teacher Ashlen and the rest are run by the trainees.🌟📘
Empowering others can have limitless effects. By extending a helping hand, we create a positive feedback loop where those who receive help are also empowered to give back. 🫶🤝💞
After we announced our expanded enrollment, we received 22 new student applications in just one day! 😁 Watching the growth of this program is like nurturing a small seedling into a thriving tree. 🌱🌳 With the right mindset and approach, the fruits of our labor are sure to blossom soon! 🍎
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Teacher Ashlen, whose decision to volunteer five months ago has helped the SSSP Small School Support Project|Refugee Children’s Education offer life-changing opportunities to refugee children. 🌍❤
